Up to 10 thousand farmers march on Dáil

Thousands of IF members including including three bus loads from Ennis, Kilrush, Ennistymon and Sixmilebridge are marching on the Dáil this lunchtime for what’s been described as the largest farming protest in 15 years.

Farmers are voicing their concern over planned EU reforms to the CAP budget, under which Ireland receives 1.6 billion euro a year for the agriculture sector.

Meanwhile

The association has also urged farmers to  close their farms for the day while Co-ops and marts are being asked not to take in stock for auction today.

However not all marts including Clare Marts are participating in the day of action – given its the busiest time of their year.
