It’s claimed climate change is responsible for the increased recent presence of the Mauve Stinger Jellyfish in North Clare.
The species which is generally found in the Mediteranean, but sometimes travels North was spotted at Bishops Quarter in Ballyvaughan and Fanore Beach on a number of occasions last week.

The stings are generally not dangerous, but can cause intense burning pain, redness, itchy and blistering skin.
Lahinch-based documentary filmmaker, author and ocean conservationist Ken O’Sullivan says vinegar and hot water is the best antidote.
