Scariff-Ogonelloe have booked their place in the U-21A Hurling final for the first time in seventeen years following a deserving Semi-Final victory over a valiant Clarecastle outfit at Dr.Daly Park Tulla.
Mark Rodgers and Patrick Crotty led the Scariff-Ogonelloe charge throughout with the latter rattling the back of Cian Broderick’s net inside the opening five minutes for the first goal of the day to give the amalgamation a 1-02 to 0-03 advantage.
However the Magpies replied defiantly enjoying a generous scoring spread with Conor Halpin, Darragh Healy, Rory O’Connell and James Doherty all pointing in the opening period while the unerring accuracy of Oisín Casey who converted six first half frees saw Clarecastle lead by 0-12 to 1-08 at the half-time break.
Scariff-Ogonnelloe came out of the traps a revitalized outfit on the restart however outscoring Clarecastle by 0-7 to 0-01 in a third quarter purple patch.
To Clarecastle’s credit they battled to the very end in Tulla as Oisín Casey, Conor Whelan and Conor Halpin all quickly pointed in response to provide some much required respite while Rory O’Connell and Aaron Hayes steadied the defensive ship.
However when a Mark Rodgers long range free deflected to the back of the Clarecastle on fifty-four minutes the floodgates well and truly opened.
Further goals from Patrick Crotty who finished with a personal tally of 2-03 and Patrick Ryan in the final moments of the tie ensured there was no way back for the Magpies as Scariff-Ogonelloe secured their passage to the U-21A Hurling final of 2022 on a full time score of 4-17 to 0-17 in Dr.Daly Park Tulla.
