A leading housing charity claims rent increases outstripping the average salary have created an insecure housing situation for many in Clare.

Threshold has revealed it prevented 97 households comprising 129 adults and 91 children from entering homelessness in this county last year.

It supported a total of 413 households here – almost a third of which were deemed at risk of becoming homeless due to factors such as disputes with landlords and unsustainable rent hikes.

Threshold Chief Executive John Mark McCafferty says the fact that the county was only recently designated as a rent pressure zone means rents having been allowed to rise consistently over the years.
