O Connell to miss Munster Festive Campaign

Paul O’Connell has been left out of the Munster squad for Monday’s rescheduled Magners League clash with Connacht in Galway – after failing to have his four-week ban over-turned.

The Ireland and Lions star will now be suspended throughout Munster’s Christmas and New Year campaign after the ERC’s appeals committee threw-out yesterday’s appeal.

O’Connell isn’t the only big name missing from Munster’s panel for Monday’s game, with the likes of Tomas O’Leary, Donncha O’Callaghan and David Wallace all rested under the IRFU’s player welfare programme.

Meanwhile, there is one game this afternoon in the Magners League.

The first all-Italian derby in the history of the competition will take place at the Stadio di Monigo where Treviso will play host to Aironi.

Kick-off there is at half-past-one.
