A Clare GP has welcomed what she’s described as a “groundbreaking” development in testing for newborn babies.
The Health Minister has announced that newborns will now be tested for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare condition that causes severe muscle degeneration.

Severe Combined Immunodeficiency will also be among the 11 conditions tested for under the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening.
Ennis-based GP Dr Máire Finn says it will make a huge difference to the lives of newborn babies.
