Nash Faces World Number 2 in Pro Stop Final

Clare man Diarmaid Nash has reached the final of the ‘Race 4 Eight’ Pro Stop handball tournament in Houston, Texas after a gruelling semi-final tie-break win against one of the favourites for the title, Emmet Peixoto, last night on a 25-13, 11-25, 11-9 scoreline.

The Tuamgraney clubman will face Luis Moreno in today’s final at 4.00pm Irish time.

Moreno is second only to Paul Brady in world handball’s standings and was hot favourite to win the tournament before a ball was served. However Nash showed immense guts to come through five games in two days and will be going all out to cause a major upset after exceeding expectations to reach the decider.

Meanwhile Diarmaid’s brother Barry Nash is in Munster Championship action today when he takes on Tipp’s Mike Carroll in the Intermediate Singles semi-final in Broadford, Limerick (2.00pm) where Mike Baker also plays a semi-final in Over 35B Singles.

Patrick Fitzgerald and Niall Bolton both play Munster Under 21 singles semi-finals in Cappagh from 2.00 while in Tuamgraney Colin Corbett takes on Tipp’s Eoin Meagher in Minor Singles.
