Fitzgerald to be ratified as Clare Hurling Boss in October

Davy Fitzgerald is now all but certain to be the next manager of the Clare Senior Hurlers, following a meeting of the county board last night and is expected to be ratified next month.

Delegates at the County Board meeting  heard that Fitzgerald had been nominated by around a dozen clubs across the county, and that no other candidate had been put forward.

The Board decided not to implement a nomination committee as it was felt this move would be unnecessary – Fitzgerald and his management team will now be invited to address next month’s meeting, after which Clare County Board Chairman Michael O’Neill expects him to be given the role

Also at last night’s meeting, it was announced that nominations are to be sought for the position of the Clare Senior Football Manager.

Current boss Micheál McDermott told delegates he wants to stay on in the role, but said if he was not ratified then he would walk away with his head held high.

Meanwhile, Michael Neylon was also re-appointed to the position of Clare Minor Football Manager for 2012.
