A Clare bowel cancer survivor says the expansion of screening to a younger cohort of people will “definitely save lives”.
BowelScreen, a free at-home test that can find signs of cancer before symptoms appear, is to be extended to those aged 50 to 54.

It’s part of a planned extension to be delivered on a phased basis which will see those aged 50 to 74 made eligible for the test.
This April is bowel cancer awareness month, and Ennis hotelier Sean Lally, who was diagnosed with the illness in 2024, says the extension is worth the additional costs and burden on staff.
