Clare Auctioneer Says Housing Stock At “Critical Levels”

A Clare auctioneer says housing stock falling to “critical levels” has led to a historic drop-off in the number of property transactions.

The latest data from the Central Statistics Office shows the volume of sales in Clare fell by 20% to 37 in the month of the February which was the lowest figure for any single month in the county since May 2012.

The average price of a home, meanwhile, surged by 20% to €326,000 when compared to the same month last year.

Diarmuid McMahon of Sherry Fitzgerald McMahon in Ennis has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons it’s difficult to see the situation resolving itself for at least a few years.
