A Clare GP is urging people to be mindful of both the short- and long-term risks associated with excessive sun exposure.
These include sunburn, which can cause skin damage, as well as dehydration, heat exhaustion and potentially life-threatening heatstroke, with the very young, older people and those who are frail most at risk
High temperatures can also place strain on the cardiovascular system, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes, while worsening respiratory and kidney conditions.
Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher says warm weather should be enjoyed, but there are a number of steps people can take to minimise the risks.
