All Ireland MHC Final: Waterford 1-18 Clare 0-10
Clare’s bid for a third All Ireland MHC title just came up short against a powerful Deise outfit in Thurles.
In truth, Clare’s challenge never really got going as a goal for Waterford inside the opening minutes saw them race into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead, and left Clare chasing for the remainder of the contest.
That lead was 1-12 to 0-5 at half time with Clare finding the slippy conditions difficult to contend with on a misty June evening that saw the floodlights woken from their winter slumber.
Clare did mount a spirited comeback in the third quarter with the first three points of the new half, but when Waterford were the ones to end a 10 minute scoreless spell after this, it spelt the end of the Banner’s momentum in that period.
Clare can be proud of their eight game championship run in 2025 with some brilliant performances along the way; none more so than their semi final win over a strong Cork outfit. This just wasn’t to be their day; but there are plenty more ahead for this talented group of players & management.
