40% Drop In Speed Offences In The First Three Months Of The Year

Speeding offences fell by 40% in Clare in the first three months of this year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office also reveal that other road and traffic offences remained relatively static during the same period.

More crime incidents recorded in Clare in January, February and March of 2026 came under the umbrella of theft and related offences than any other category.

A total of 637 incidents of this nature took place in the county in the first quarter of the year which was 15% more than in the same period last year.

Road and traffic offences was the next most common type of crime, with 525 incidents recorded, up 2% on last year.

This was followed by dangerous and negligent acts which saw a 33% year-on-year reduction.

Notably, there was a 35% increase in other types of theft such as the handling of stolen property, a 33% spike in disorderly conduct, a 29% rise in public order incidents and a 24% surge in attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences.

Speeding saw a 40% reduction however with just 276 incidents recorded compared to 457 in the same stretch of 2025.
