Women Left Behind When It Comes To Pensions

Women are still being left behind when it comes to pensions.

The National Women’s Council (NWC) has released its report: ‘Still stuck in the Gap – Pensions Auto-enrolment from a Gender and Care lens’.

It shows the government’s new pension auto-enrolment scheme will increase the number of people getting pensions – but it won’t address the problems faced by women.

Director of the National Women’s Council, Orla O’Connor, says the scheme focuses on people in full-time paid employment, but leaves behind part-time workers, or people contributing to unpaid care for others.

For more on this, Alan Morrissey was joined by Clare ISME Representative & Owner of St Tola’s Goat Cheese, Siobhán Ni Gharbhith and Former Social Democrats General Election Candidate, Hilary Tonge.
