The boats on the Sumud Flotilla to Gaza which were not intercepted are doing repairs today.
However, all 180 activists on the flotilla who were detained by Israeli forces were expected to have been dumped on a beach in northern Crete overnight.
It’s claimed those taken away from the aid ship include seven Irish nationals, among them Clare man Martin Guilfoyle, who’s whereabouts and welfare remain unknown.
The Global Sumud Flotilla departed from Italy on Sunday carrying over 400 civilians from multiple countries on a humanitarian mission to Gaza.
Twenty-two of its vessels were intercepted by Israeli military forces on April 29th.
The interception took place approximately 600 nautical miles from Gaza, far beyond any previous Israeli interdiction of a civilian flotilla.
Martin Guilfoyle’s nephew, Clarecastle Sine Féin Councillor Tommy Guilfoyle, has described the action as ‘totally illegal’.
Scariff-based MEP Michael McNamara yesterday led a letter signed by several Members of the European Parliament to the EU Foreign Policy Chief demanding immediate intervention.
The letter describes the interception as a serious act of aggression by a foreign military power in European waters, hundreds of miles from Gaza, with no legal or security justification.
