A Limerick-based Garda is being treated in intensive care after he was shot in New Orleans.

The man – who is from Tipperary and is stationed in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick – was shot twice during a botched mugging in the city.
He was on holiday there with members of his family at the time.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the incident, and is providing consular assistance.
