A Limerick businessman who's accused of a spate of robberies across Munster as well as an attempted robbery in Ennis, has said "this is not who I am" after being charged.

It's alleged that 49-year-old John Carroll of Clonshire, Adare attempted to rob Barry Lynch's Centra on the Gort Road on October 5th last.
It's alleged that between the 5th and 12th of October last year, John Carroll robbed 2,410 euro from six filling stations, and attempted to rob another one.
The incidents occured in Applegreen Service Stations in Birdhill, Greenane in Clonmel, and Nenagh, Barry Lynch's Centra in Ennis, Topaz in Midleton, Costcutter's Garage inBishopstown in Cork and Mac's Place in Mallow.
Detective Jerry O'Sullivan told Limerick District Court 49-year-old replied 'this is not who I am', when he was charged with the seven offences.
In October the 49-year-old was charged with a spate of other robberies, attempted robberies, burglaries and possession of a firearm.
These allegation relate incidents in Adare, Newcastle West, Ardnacrusha, Larkin's Cross, Childers Road and Ennis Road in Limerick city on several dates between the 30th of September and 12th of October last year.
All charges are to be tried on indictment. Solicitor John Herbert was assigned on free legal aid on the new charges.
Judge Mary Larkin was told a bail application had been due on the older charges but it was now being withdrawn.
Judge Larkin remanded the 49-year-old in custody to appear at Limerick District Court again on the 19th of January.
