Futureproof Clare says responsibility for the country’s surging carbon output lies with industrial ventures such as data centres.
It comes as a joint UN-EU report has revealed that Europe’s average temperature is rising at twice the global rate with Ireland listed as one of a number of countries that had its hottest year on record in 2022.
Plans for a proposed data centre on the outskirts of Ennis are still awaiting a decision by An Bórd Pleanála but the planning files state that if built, the centre would produce 657,000 tonnes of Co2-equivalent emissions each year.
Futureproof Clare Spokesperson, Sinéad Sheehan says individuals need to get involved in policy-making, to prevent large industrial ventures from causing further environmental damage.
