A former Clare county councillor is pushing for the embrace of nuclear energy as well as the retention of stoves and fireplaces to protect the local economy, infrastructure and communities.
It comes as scientists are warning that the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation, a major part of the global climate system that keeps northern European temperatures mild, is closer to collapse than previously thought.

Former Green Party councillor Brian Meaney claims this could cause drastic temperature drops along with more intense storms, coastal erosion and damage to marine life.
He says we’re at risk of “cutting off our nose to spite our face”.
