Fear is being expressed over the impact a potential strike by Clare County Council’s water crews on hospitals and other essential services.
Staff working in the water section have voted in favour of industrial action, up to and including a strike, over concerns they have about changes to working conditions.

The local authority has sought to separate water and wastewater services, which staff insist contradicts a Labour Court recommendation, and they say it would result in staff movement and changes in work practices.
Cooraclare Fianna Fáil Councillor Bill Chambers says it would have a knock-on impact on vital services if it goes ahead:
