A Clare environmental group is criticising the ‘lack of transparency’ from the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, in the wake of a proposal that would see data centres receive a reduction in their energy bills.
The CRU is suggesting that data centres could receive cheaper energy rates in return for turning off their gas supply at peak times.

A decision has yet to be made on the arrangement, with the CRU having launched a public consultation in June.
Futureproof Clare spokesperson Sinead Sheahan says the energy regulator needs to be held to account to a greater extent.
