A 91-year-old activist walking from Shannon Airport to Dublin in protest says allowing the US military to use the base is “a blot on our souls”.
Acclaimed film and television producer Lelia Doolan is commencing a 216-kilometre trek from the Clare facility to Dáil Éireann tomorrow.
The Cork native, whose parents are from Clare, is using the trip to advocate for peace, the closure of the airport to the US military, the passing of the Occupied Territories Bill and the protection of Irish neutrality.
With an expected arrival date at Government buildings of April 15th, Lelia says all efforts must be made to highlight what she argues is Ireland’s complicity in violations of international law.
