Éire Óg have defeated Kilrush Shamrocks in the first match of this year’s Clare Senior Football Championship.
The match started off as a closely fought contest – Éire Óg briefly took a three point lead before Kilrush went ahead through a Liam Madigan penalty after 22 minutes.
Kilrush would take a three point advantage at one stage but the Townies fought back, however, and led by one point at half-time, 0-8 to 1-4 and they went on to dominate for much of the second half.
By the time Philip Talty scored their first goal, 14 minutes after the break, they lead 1-12 to 1-4 and when Gavin Cooney netted late on, they were well on their way to a 2-15 to 1-6 win.
Cooney scored 1-9 throughout, including 1-5 from play.
