Adam Nolan has become the fifth Irish boxer to qualify for the London Olympics.
The Wexford Welterweight beat Ionut Gheorghe (pr: Eye-nut Jeorge-ay) of Romania by 19 points to 10 to advance to the final of the Olympic Qualifying event in Turkey.
Nolan led 7-5 after the first round and found himself 15-8 ahead going into the final round before he claimed an impressive nine point win.
He joins Darren O’Neill, John Joe Nevin, Michael Conlan and Paddy Barnes on the Irish team.
Barnes himself fights at 4.00 today in his own semi final and the last Irish boxer in the ring Tommy McCarthy still needs two wins in the Heavyweight Division to secure a place in London – he’s due to fight at 6.00.
