Kilmurry Ready To Open Defence Of Clare SFC Title

A member of the Kilmurry Ibrickane backroom team is confident they can handle the pressure of the favourites tag ahead of this weekends championship opener.

The Bricks get their title defence underway against a Kilfenora side who are facing into their second season in the top tier after promotion in 2016.

It will be a new look Kilmurry team that take to the field in Ennistymon with the likes of the O’Dwyer brothers and Thomas O’Connor having retired while there are injury doubts surrounding Martin McMahon and Darren Hickey.

Selector Kieran Madigan says everyone is ready to put their shoulders to the wheel

Meanwhile Clondegad boss Michael Hehir insists they won’t be using last years disappointment as motivation for their 2018 campaign.

The Ballynacally men were beaten in their first every County Final appearance last October, and are back in Cusack Park tomorrow to take on St Josephs Doora Barefield in this years opening round.

It remains to be seen if county hurling stars Tony Kelly and Paul Flanagan will feature for Clondegad but county football captain Gary Brennan will line out at midfield.

Hehir says they’re ready to start with a clean slate.
