A stunning pair of injury-time Cathal O’Connell goals helped Clonlara to a dramatic one point over over Whitegate in their senior hurling championship tie in Sixmilebridge on Saturday afternoon. Clonlara edged it by a point, 4-16 to 3-18.
The teams were level at half-time, 1-10 apiece while Whitegate were five points ahead, five minutes into injury time. It was then that O’Connell struck twice inside 40 seconds.
Meanwhile, a Conor McGrath goal helped Cratloe to a 1-14 to 1-10 win over Broadford in Shannon. The winners led 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time and while a second half Paddy Donnellan goal brought Broadford back into it, Cratloe responded with four points to seal a place in the last eight.
In Cusack Park, Kilmaley scored a 0-20 to 1-15 win over O’Callaghan’s Mills. Three late points from Daire Keane were crucial for the winners, while Gearóid O’Grady put over the winners last score. The Mills now have to face a relegation play-off, while Kilmaley meet Clonlara in a winners take all showdown for a place in the quarter-final.
