On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Dr Máire Lavelle, consultant breast pathologist at UHL to discuss Breast Cancer Awareness Month taking place this October.
Almost a quarter (23%) of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland are between the age of 20 and 50. One in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, with 3,704 new cases being reported every year.

Máire highlighted her role in the diagnosis process and finding treatment options available for women attending the region’s Symptomatic Breast Unit.
