Calls are being made for a school crossing patrol officer to be installed outside a Shannon school following a near miss earlier this week.
A child was nearly struck by a vehicle at the pedestrian crossing outside St Senan’s National School in Shannon during drop-off on Monday morning.
In an email from school management, an urgent appeal has been made to all road users in the area to strictly adhere to the speed limit along the route.
Parents are now calling for a patrol officer to be installed at the pedestrian crossing in the aftermath of the incident.
St Senan’s Parents Association member, Louise Carrig, says it’s the only solution given the number of safety measures already in place.
Shannon residents say anyone driving in the area is either living in Corrib Drive or a parent of a child attending St.Senan’s, and should know the risks associated with the route.
Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor, Pat O’Gorman, says the onus is on drivers to to reduce the risk of an accident.
