Swimming Restrictions In Place At Seven Clare Bathing Areas

Swimming restrictions have been introduced at seven Clare bathing areas.

Clare County Council is warning that heavy rainfall over the coming days could lead to excessive levels of bacteria at several coastal sites.

The affected areas include Lahinch, White Strand Doonbeg and White Strand Miltown Malbay, Cappagh Pier in Kilrush, Kilkee, Spanish Point and Quilty.

The notice remains in effect until Thursday and the local authority, in accordance with the HSE, is advising bathers to avoid swallowing or splashing water, to avoid swimming with an open cut or wound and to avoid swimming if you’re pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

The Council is reassuring, however, that higher levels of bacteria are usually short-lived and most bathers are unlikely to experience any illness.
