A Clare hedgehog sanctuary is urging every resident of the county to participate in a new survey.

A new National Hedgehog Survey launched by researchers at the University of Galway and the National Biodiversity Data Centre is aiming to assess the level of public knowledge on the creature’s current status.

Studies across Britain and Europe have found declines in hedgehog populations arising from habitat loss, farming practices and the use of pesticides.

Bev Truss of the Hogsprickle Sanctuary in Broadford says there are simple steps people can take to protect these well-loved mammals.
