Women across Clare are being encouraged to prioritise their health and wellbeing during Women’s Health Week, which gets underway today.
A programme of events is taking place across the county, with a focus on supporting women at every stage of life.
The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Strong at Every Age – Strong Bones, Strong Hearts, Strong Minds’.
Led by Clare County Council, in partnership with Clare Sports Partnership, the HSE and Tusla, the initiative aims to empower girls, teenagers and women of all ages with the knowledge, confidence and practical supports needed to build and maintain lifelong health and wellbeing.
A dedicated programme for teenage girls will take place in secondary schools, focusing on menstrual health, self-confidence and mental wellbeing.
Events for adult women, meanwhile, will cover areas including bone and heart health, nutrition, exercise, strength training and healthy ageing.
Women’s Health Week Ambassador, former Ireland women’s rugby international and open-water swimmer Rosie Foley from Killaloe says it’s never too late to start improving your health.
Clare County Council’s Healthy Ireland Coordinator says Women’s Health Week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the importance of looking after our health at every age and stage of life.
Joan Tarmey says women have a tendency to put their own health behind the needs of others, but that shouldn’t be the case.
A special week-long series will also be running on Morning Focus on Clare FM, featuring expert discussions on key aspects of women’s health.
