There’s a large security presence in Doonbeg today, with the arrival of Eric Trump to his Hotel and Golf Resort.
The US President’s son has flown in for a private meeting to discuss upcoming developments there.
Eric Trump has arrived in Clare today, as the clock counts down to the Amgen Irish Open which will be hosted in Doonbeg next September.
Eric, along with US President Donald Trump’s eldest child Donald Jr. took control of the Trump Organisation in 2024, after their father regained the White House and has visited their West Clare business on a number of occasions.
The hotel and golf resort will remain closed for the duration of the visit of Eric Trump, who’s accompanied by a Secret Service team.
A hotel spokesperson has told Clare FM that it will be a quick visit to review golf course projects and preparation for the Irish Open.
The proposed Ballroom Development, which was first mooted as part of a phased development is currently before Clare County Council and is being billed by the Trump Organisation as a significant economic boost for West Clare.
Public submissions can be made on the proposal until February 2nd and local Fianna Fail Councillor Rita McInerney says it should be considered in the context of long-term, sustainable employment for the local community.
The DP World Tour will be hosting a public meeting in Doonbeg Hall on February 16th to outline their role in delivering the Irish Open in West Clare in eight months time.
When held in Lahinch in 2019, the golfing event generated over 10 million euro for the local economy and a significantly higher boost is expected in West Clare later this year.
Doonbeg resident Willie Hanrahan believes that with the right facilities in place, further major golfing events could be attracted to the region.
