Over 760 Tonnes Of Waste Collected At Clare Civic Amenities In Two Months

More than 760 tonnes of waste was collected from recycling centres and recreational facilities in Clare over September and October.

New figures show the Local Authority’s Waste Enforcement Team has already dealt with over 2,000 complaints this year.

Of these, 670 relate to illegal dumping, 28 for waste presentation, 43 involve dog fouling and 92 are for littering.

In November, there was another consistent spike in the number of reported incidents, rising by 30% on October’s total.

As a result, the waste enforcement team carried out inspections of 8 permitted and 5 unauthorised sites.

Following investigation of the authorised sites, 5 warning letters, 4 section 14 notices and one section 55 notice were issued, of which, the latter two require waste to be moved to a compliant facility.

In respect of the unauthorised sites, Clare County Council has confirmed that follow-up enforcement is ongoing.

During September and October, the Waste Enforcement Team collected over 760,000 kgs or (760tonnes) of waste material from civic amenity sites in Ennis, Shannon, Scariff, Inagh and Lisdeen.

Included in the haul was over 249 tonnes of municipal or household waste, 227 tonnes of timber, 126 tonnes of green waste, 43 tonnes of cardboard, 8 tonnes of mattresses, 4 tonnes of plastic and 83 tonnes of what’s described as bulky items.

So far this year, the local authority has also received 127 pollution complaints, up 32% on last year.
