The number of patients on a waiting list of over 18 months or more for services at Ennis Hospital has more than quadrupled in the last year.
New data from the National Treatment Purchase Fund shows the vast majority are on the cardiology list.
There were approximately 2,291 patients on waiting lists in Ennis at the end of April, twelve of whom were children.
Cardiology was once again the most in demand service with 1,438 patients on the list in total and 355 who are now waiting over a year and a half for an appointment, which is an increase of 397% since the same month of 2025.
Additionally, three patients are now waiting over a year and a half for Rheumatology appointments in Ennis, up from zero last year, while one patient was waiting more than 18 months for a Urology appointment.
There’s also been a significant increase in waiting lists at University Hospital Limerick, with 28,206 adults on the outpatient list, 6,389 more than this time last year.
Cardiology, Dermatology and Endocrinology were the services most in demand, with 8,703 patients waiting over 18 months for appointments across the disciplines.
On the Children’s list meanwhile, there are now 119 patients waiting over a year for Cardiology appointments at University Hospital Limerick.
