Numbers Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare Continue To Fall

The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare has fallen for the fifth consecutive month.

New data from the Central Statistics Office shows there are just over 3,600 on the social welfare list in this county.

At the end of March, approximately 3,638 people in Clare were claiming some form of social welfare, marking a 5% reduction from February and the fifth month in succession where Clare’s unemployment rate dropped.

As usual, the lion’s share of presentations originated from Ennis, where 1,926 people signed on , while 632 individuals made claims in Ennistymon.

East Clare was an outlier last month with a marginal increase in social welfare recipients at Tulla’s office, rising from 448 to 452 in the space of a month.

Kilrush also saw a notable reduction, with just 628 people making claims in West Clare.

The number of under 25s claiming unemployment benefit did rise, however, increasing from 405 to 438 in the last year.
