Number Of Patients Waiting For A Bed At University Hospital Limerick Down Over 10% In January

There was a year-on-year decrease of more than 10% in the number of patients waiting for a bed at University Hospital Limerick last month.

New figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show the Dooradoyle facility remained the most overcrowded facility in the country in January however.

The INMO report reveals 1,991 patients were without a bed at the region’s main hospital in the month of January.

By contrast, the figure for the same month in 2024 was 2,234, meaning the level of overcrowding at the facility has fallen by 11% in a year.

The facility remains the most overcrowded in the country, with the number of people on trolleys there in January 47% above that of the next busiest facility, Galway University Hospital.

Looking at the national picture, 13,077 people were forced to wait for a bed in January, indicating a drop of 6%.
