More Than €500k Worth Of Drugs Seized At Shannon Airport

More than half a million euro worth of drugs has been seized at Shannon Airport.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

As a result of routine operations at Shannon Airport yesterday, Revenue officers seized approximately 29 kilograms of herbal cannabis.

The illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €580,000, were discovered concealed within the baggage of two passengers, who had disembarked a flight originating from Thailand.

A man and a woman were subsequently arrested by An Garda Síochána.

The pair are being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Garda Station in Clare and investigations are ongoing.

The seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
