It’s claimed efforts to secure US cargo pre-clearance for Shannon Airport are vital for the airport to prosper under it’s new independent footing.
The Mid-Western Regional Authority is urging the government to press authorities in the states to provide pre-clearance facilities for cargo, to go along with the pre-clearance already given to passengers.
Having carried out a study on the matter, the group believes such a stamp of approval for Clare’s international airport would speed up the development of a cargo hub at Shannon, and in turn allow the airport to become the European hub for US-bound cargo.
Director of the MWRA Liam Conneally feels this is an opportunity the government has to take.
