The Mayor of Ennis has faced backlash for requesting the removal of a prominent cycle lane on the grounds that it’s made the road “too narrow” for drivers.
Councillor Pat Daly raised a motion at this month’s meeting of local representatives calling on Ennis Municipal District to remove one side of the cycle lane at Clonroadmore between St. Flannan’s College and Eire Óg GAA Grounds.
The motion was strongly opposed by all but two councillors present and was subsequently withdrawn.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Daly has stood form in his position, however, insisting that the bollards and armadillos on the road pose a risk to the safety of drivers who traverse the route.
