The deputy leader of Sinn Féin's described plans by the Government to censure her in the Dáil as a diversionary tactic
Reports say the Government Chief Whip will write to the Ceann Comhairle following a finding that Mary Lou McDonald abused Dáil privilege when she named a number of former politicians, accusing them of having offshore accounts to evade tax.
All of those named by her have denied her claims, while her reference to one 'S Barrett' prompted the family of former Clarecastle Fianna Fáil Minister Sylvester Barrett to deny that he had accounts with Ansbacher or Guinness & Mahon.
Deputy McDonald says she stands by her actions, but would apologise to the former politicians if a full investigation clears them.
