One person has been hospitalised following a fire at a domestic property in Ennis this afternoon.
The alarm was raised shortly before 2.00pm when smoke was seen coming from the window of an upstairs apartment at lower Turnpike Road.
Two units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennis station responded to the call along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.
On arrival at the scene, fire crews promptly gained access to the property and brought the sole occupant to safety. It’s understood the man may have been trying to extinguished the fire himself at the time.
Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control.
The man was assessed at the scene by ambulance paramedics and was later transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for smoke inhalation.
