Man Held In Custody Following Armed Robbery At Ennis Shop

A man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged robbery at a shop in Ennis last week.

A man, armed with a knife entered the shop on the Cloughleigh Road on Tuesday last and demanded cash from the till.

At around six o’clock last Tuesday evening, a man entered the Gala shop on the Cloughleigh Road, wearing a balaclava over his face and carrying a knife.

He demanded the staff member to open the cash register but he couldn’t open it and the man subsequently took a number of packets of cigarettes and left on a bike in the direction of the Lahinch Road.

Gardaí have described it as a “traumatic incident” for the staff member but say he wasn’t physically injured.

Later that evening, Gardaí from Ennis Garda Station executed a search warrant at a house in Ennis and a male in his late 20’s was arrested and detained at Ennis Garda Station.

He was brought before Ennis District Court on August 12th and was remanded in custody to Limerick Prison.
