An Irish man has died in hospital in Australia following an alleged hammer attack in Melbourne almost two weeks ago.

30 year old backpacker David Greene from Dun Laoghaire in Co. Dublin passed away at Alfred Hospital overnight, surrounded by his family – after he was attacked at a Saint Kilda boarding house on August 26th.
His friend, 28 year old David Byas – also from Dun Laoghaire – was injured in the attack too and is now recovering at a rehabilitation centre.
A 31 year old man has already been charged in connection with the incident and is due in court next month.
