Increase in successful planning applications in Clare

Clare County Council granted planning permission for 38 new properties in the third quarter of the year.

It's the highest number recorded here in any three-month period in over two years.

New CSO figures show all of these were for one-off housing developments, with an average area of just under 240 square metres.

The 38 planned houses are the highest for any quarter since the first three months of 2012, though it's still a long way down on the peak which saw permission granted for over 750 homes in the Spring of 2008.

It remains to be seen if the improvement in Clare is a once-off, or the beginning of a recovery here.

Elsewhere, a decline in the number of planning permissions was recorded in the same three-month period in Limerick and North Tipperary.
