The UL Hospitals Group is urging people to reserve the Emergency Department at the region’s main hospital for those that need it most.
University Hospital Limerick has been experiencing a high number of patients attending the ED in recent days, many of those seriously ill and still awaiting a bed.
The INMO’s latest trolley watch figures show 47 patients were waiting on trolleys there this morning.
The hospital is asking people to visit their GP or out of hours GP service in the first instance, or to utilise the injury unit at Ennis General Hospital which is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week,
Anyone who is seriously injured or ill or is concerned that their life is at risk, will be assessed and treated as a priority at the ED in Dooradoyle.
