An investigation’s underway into the discovery of a man’s body in Ennis.
The remains are believed to be those of homeless man Joseph Pavelka- who case was highlighted last month after it emerged he had been sleeping rough in the town’s public toilets.
Gardai are not treating his death as suspicious
The man’s body was found at Thompson’s Lane, alongside O’Connell St. in Ennis at around 11:30 last night.
An investigation into his death has begun but Gardai say they’re not treating it as suspicious.
While the dead man has not been officially named, it’s understood he is 55 year old Joseph Pavelka.
The Czech national, along with Polish friend Peter Baram, received widespread attention when Judge Patrick Durcan labelled their sleeping conditions, in a public toilet in the town, as a scandal.
This prompted the St. Vincent De Paul to find them temporary shelter in a public hostel in Galway, though the men returned to Ennis last weekend and Mr. Pavelka re-appeared before the court this week on charges relating to his drinking in public.
Gardai are now liasing with authorities in the Czech Republic following the discovery of his body.
