Gardaí are investigating an incident of burglary and criminal damage at a student house near the University of Limerick.
The university has described the alleged anti-social behaviour as a matter of serious concern and has reminded students of their responsibilities to the local community.
Gardaí were alerted to a large public gathering at the property in College Court in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Videos circulating online appear to show extensive damage inside the house, including smashed windows and holes in walls and ceilings.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were in the College Court and Castletroy area between midnight and 2am.
University of Limerick says it is aware of the incident, which took place off campus, and that an investigation by An Garda Síochána is underway.
The university says it strongly promotes responsible behaviour and positive engagement with the community.
It says while the vast majority of students are respectful and valued members of the local community, anti-social behaviour including property damage and public disorder is a serious concern.
UL has reminded students that they are expected to abide by the Student Code of Conduct, with complaints concerning individuals taken seriously.
It says it also has a community liaison framework involving local residents, students, landlords and other stakeholders, and regularly facilitates additional Garda patrols.
It’s not known if those involved were UL students.
Local resident Eric Nelligan says this sort of behaviour has been happening there for 30 years.
