Fresh Calls For Results Of Ballymacraven River Investigations To Be Published

Fresh calls are being made for the report into the cause of a major fish kill in North Clare to be published.

The pollution incident, which took place on the 9th of May of this year, resulted in the deaths of up to 2,000 fish along the 2.6km stretch of the Ballymacraven River outside Ennistymon.

Following a spate of beach closures due to elevated levels of bacteria in the county over the summer period, a campaign group called “Save Our Rivers” is holding a rally at the entrance to the Clare County Council buildings on Saturday the 9th of September.

 

Campaign spokesperson and chairperson of Clare Labour, Denis Vaughan, claims the ecological condition of Clare’s waterways is not being taken seriously by the powers that be.
