Former Clare Minister Believes Bertie Ahern Apology Would Make Little Difference

A former Fianna Fáil minister says an apology from former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern would make little difference.

It follows comments made by the former Fianna Fáil leader in a video recorded without his knowledge, in which he suggested there were too many people coming into the country and that he was particularly concerned about immigration from Africa and “the next generation of Muslims.”

Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the comments were inappropriate and do not represent the views of Fianna Fáil.

Speaking ahead of the party’s centenary Ard Fheis, former Defence Minister and Clare TD Tony Killeen says while Mr Ahern should give a full explanation of his comments, some elements of his remarks should “give pause for thought.”
