Fears Of Blow To Shannon Played Down Despite American Plans To Expand Pre-Clearance

A Shannon-area local Councillor has admitted that the expanded rollout of US preclearance facilities throughout Europe could be a blow for the Airport.

However, Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat McMahon has also played down the extent of its impact.

Shannon and Dublin are the only airports in Europe which offer the passenger friendly pre-clearance facility on flights to the US, but Washington is now in talks with ten other airports that could also provide the service, including Heathrow and Manchester.

However, as this process would take a number of years, Councillor McMahon is hopeful that Shannon has some time yet to exploit its advantage.
